Elisa Duca

Elisa Duca lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
The artistic practice of Elisa Duca (she/her) is characterized by transcultural experiences of foreignness and has its place in post-migrant society. Her performative, multimedia installations invite us to suspend binary notions of digitality and reality, global and local, human and non-human, and to explore the possibilities of the spaces in between. Her works are dedicated to the interplay of human and non-human beings in everyday life.

Tentacle Memories
2025
Intervention: postcards, Christmas decoration, fridge magnets, key rings
Variable dimensions
Created specifically for the Biennale für Freiburg 3, the artist used an image-generating AI to pro- duce a series of postcards in which all traces of human presence have been erased. In their place, strange non-human beings—tentacle-like creatures, plant-like structures, and alien forms—inhabit the scenery of Freiburg’s most iconic landmarks.
Accompanied by specially produced souvenirs, the postcard series is subtly placed within one of the most well-known and frequently visited souvenir shops at Münsterplatz. By integrating these objects into the cycle of tourist consumption, the work raises questions about the commodification of travel imagery. It reveals the narratives tied to such souvenirs and highlights the stereotypical notions of place and identity that are often reproduced through them.
