The Black Forest and Antalya - two popular vacation destinations are the starting point for the artistic reflections of Unofficial Hiking Society AG. Catherin Schöberl grew up in St. Georgen in the Black Forest and Ozan Güngör in Antalya. They use these personal connections to explore the complex dynamics of hosting and being hosted, migration and cultural exchange.
Their installation - in the form of an advertising stand equipped with various information materials - is based on interview statements, picks up on cultural stereotypes from both regions, links them and reflects on forms of appropriation. An accompanying audio walk through Freiburg's city center brings personal and collective experiences to life. The public space thus becomes a place of negotiation - between “here” and “there”, migration and tourism, hosting and being hosted.
On Saturday, June 7, 2025, Unofficial Hiking Society AG will activate its stand - on display in the SCHOPF 2 exhibition space during the Biennale für Freiburg 3 - in front of the Münster and between the established market stalls of the Münstermarkt. The collective will provide insights into its practice, talk about the working process and be available to answer questions.
The art collective Unofficial Hiking Society AG sees itself as a platform for research and reflection on public space. The collective's central medium is physical and digital hikes, which serve to gain knowledge and explore one's own surroundings, their perception and the narratives that shape them.
