Performances
entre chien et loup
In the performance entre chien et loup, Marie Popall and Louisa Raspé jointly explore the potential of twilight as a moment of becoming a stranger to oneself and the world. Based on the French term for twilight as a moment between dog and wolf - “entre chien et loup” - the work addresses the changeable and unclear in human perception and behavior, especially in unfamiliar places or in twilight. Through a performative, literary intervention with vocal techniques such as growling, screaming and shouting, the place “Schauinsland” is activated and staged as a threshold space between wildness and taming. The dog and wolf symbolize the tension between the familiar and the strange.
Louisa Raspé (she/her) is a director, dramaturge, and author. She is interested in process-oriented verbs, archives as carriers of knowledge, and the potential of contemporary fiction. Marie Popall’s (she/her) practice, which oscillates between dance, theater, and performance, explores the political imaginary and questions the relationship between power, violence, and tenderness. Marie and Louisa met on the theater stage and are interested in the transitions between disciplines, as well as in-between times and tipping points more generally. For Biennale für Freiburg, they bring their artistic practices together for the first time. With word and gesture, both strange and familiar, they turn to each other.
Unofficial Tourism Agency
The Black Forest and Antalya - two popular vacation destinations are the starting point for the artistic reflections of Unofficial Hiking Society AG. Catherin Schöberl grew up in St. Georgen in the Black Forest and Ozan Güngör in Antalya. They use these personal connections to explore the complex dynamics of hosting and being hosted, migration and cultural exchange.
Their conceptual work can also be experienced through gastronomic offerings. For this intervention, they collaborate with the artists Marie Donike and Johannes Specks, who design the artistic-culinary concept and perform together with them on site as hosts. This performative gesture invites people to encounter each other in new roles, share the insights gained and reflect on the dynamics of hosting and being hosted.
The art collective Unofficial Hiking Society AG, founded in 2023, positions itself as a platform for research and reflection on public space. The collective's central medium is the hikes they organize — both physical and digital — which serve to gain knowledge and explore their own surroundings, their perception and the narratives that shape them.
