The audiovisual essay (41 min.) is composed as a typology of islands that examines mankind's insatiable need for sand - the world's most extracted raw material after water. Colonialism, dredging machines and land reclamation projects emerge in a poetic, narrative web. It is the story of how sand is integrated into a global machinery called progress - a machinery that continuously shapes and recomposes landscapes, natural resources and geopolitical values.
